Welcome to MyHeart, this is a site aimed at raising awareness about ischaemic heart disease

  • how to prevent it
  • how to detect it
  • how to live with it

Ischaemic Heart disease (IHD) is part of a family of diseases caused by fatty plaques or atheroscleorsis which build up over time.

These diseases are known collectively as cardiovascular disease (CVD)and include stroke, aortic disease and peripheral vascular disease.

Although huge improvements in public health have been made, CVD remains the UK's second highest casue of premature death, with IHD causing more than half of these deaths.

Studies suggest that modifiable risk factors account for 90% of IHD, i.e. it is largely preventable.

Studies have also shown that detecting plaque early with cardiac CT scanning can better identify people that will go on ot be heart patients and develop IHD
